How our route information is prepared

Route descriptions combine editorial storytelling with calculations from the GPX file linked on each guide. Distances are calculated between successive track points; ascent is the sum of positive recorded elevation changes. Values are rounded and can differ from other mapping services because of recording noise and smoothing.

We distinguish climbs, loops and point-to-point rides. Schematic files and incomplete waypoint files are explicitly labelled. Publishing a GPX does not mean that its road conditions, access rules or safety have been independently checked on the ground.

Difficulty descriptions are editorial guidance, not an official grading system. Check current local conditions and your own ability before choosing a route.
